Bio
Aidan Cornue is a multiskilled journalist, photographer and digital content specialist currently living in Morgantown, West Virginia and attending West Virginia University. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Aidan's journey into the world of storytelling began at an early age, shaped by the vibrant city and its culture. Today, his work spans across Appalachia, the South and the East, where he covers a diverse range of topics including local culture, politics, environmental issues, social justice movements, media and the arts, the culinary world and the outdoors. His writing and photography aim to capture the essence of overlooked stories, giving voice to people and places that are often neglected by mainstream narratives.
While pursuing a degree in Journalism, Aidan has actively contributed to numerous publications. He recently worked at The Daily Athenaeum in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he has held multiple positions, including photo editor, digital content editor and editor-in-chief.
His freelance work has consistently been featured in The Herald Dispatch in Huntington, West Virginia through his photographic and journalistic expertise. Prior to these roles, he interned at The Evanston Roundtable, in Evanston, Illinois, where he refined his journalistic voice and honed in on his craft of storytelling. His broad experience across different regions and publications has shaped his approach to journalism, where he combines his sharp eye for detail with his dedication to social advocacy.
Aidan worked with Chicagoan photographer Jack Kraig, owner of Jack Kraig Photography, who mentored Aidan into finding his photographic voice and reinforcing his knowledge and skill in the art. Aidan has maintained an active career as a freelance photographer for over five years.
In 2021, Aidan published his first collection of poetry, A Strange Assortment of Poems, which reflects his unique voice and observations of the world around him as well as focusing on his family heritage and roots.
When he isn’t writing or photographing, Aidan enjoys crafting nonfiction short stories, constantly sharpening his craft as a storyteller. His work is marked by a commitment to shedding light on underrepresented voices and perspectives, making a meaningful impact in the world of journalism, photography and beyond.
